Bay Waters gave Sylvia a carefree life so she could travel the world – 3 times to be exact!
Sylvia Preston’s two biggest passions are painting and travelling. The artist said moving to Bay Waters, Karidis Retirement Village in the heart of Glenelg, has allowed her and her husband Jim to live their retirement dream travelling around the world – three times to be exact!
“We go overseas every year and love the peace of mind that everything is looked after for us when we do that. We have travelled around the world three times already and do not intend to slow down,” Sylvia said.
When she is not travelling, Sylvia likes to maintain an active lifestyle, so the fact that Bay Waters is located just a stroll away from Jetty Road made it the perfect fit for downsizing.
“You can walk to the bank, the shops, cafes, restaurants and to the beach; or simply catch the tram to go to the city. It is convenient even for those who don’t want to drive as much. They can still live an active life and go places.”
Painting has been in Sylvia’s blood from a young age and her artwork can be seen interstate, overseas and display in many common areas of Bay Waters.
“Painting has been a huge part of my life. My father was a painter and my granddaughter is an artist and is very gifted too,” Sylvia says.
“I have done some exhibitions, two of those here at Bay Waters, as part of the SALA Festival. For me, painting is like composing music; you get such a nice feeling from it and when someone appreciates what you have done, it’s a bonus.”
Travelling the world has definitely given Sylvia great inspiration for her artwork, but having one of the most beautiful beaches in the world at her doorstep has been one of the reasons Sylvia claims there is nowhere else she would rather retire.
